Born in Istanbul in 1927, Teo Grünberg graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Faculty of Science at Istanbul University in 1950. He received his PhD from the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Letters at the same university in 1964, becoming an Associate Professor in 1970 and a Professor in 1979. He worked as a lecturer and expert in the Department of Philosophy at Istanbul University from 1962 to 1966, and as a faculty member in the Department of Humanities at Middle East Technical University (METU) from 1966 to 1982. He served as the head of the METU Department of Philosophy, which he pioneered in establishing, from 1983 to 1994. After his retirement in 1994, Teo Grünberg continued teaching in the same department until 2020, graduating his last doctoral student in 2024. Teo Grünberg, who passed away on the night of April 13, 2025, was laid to rest following a ceremony held on April 16, 2025, in the METU Social Sciences Amphitheatre. Professor Teo Grünberg served as a member of the high school modern logic reform commission at the Ministry of National Education's Department of Education and Training in 1967 and as a faculty member of in-service summer courses on modern logic for high school philosophy teachers from 1967 to 1976. Teo Grünberg, who strived to make the tradition of logic-based analytical thinking an indispensable element of philosophy education and research, has authored numerous articles and papers, some of which have been published in international journals, and has written nearly 20 books. For his contributions to the acceptance and dissemination of modern logic at university and high school levels in Turkey, his training of numerous personnel, and his decisive contributions to the institutionalization and development of this field in our country, Prof. Dr. Teo Grünberg was awarded the Turkish Academy of Sciences Service Award in 1998. Grünberg was elected as an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences in 2013.
