Ahmet Levent Bayındırlı was born in Balıkesir in 1960. He completed his middle and high school education at TED Ankara College. He graduated from METU Chemical Engineering Department in 1983. He started working as a research assistant in METU Food Engineering Department, which was established the same year he completed his undergraduate education, and completed his master's and doctorate degrees in the same department. After working as assistant professor and associate professor in the same department, he was appointed as a professor in 1998. He served as Department Vice Chair between 1989-2001 and as Department Chair between 2001-2004 in METU Food Engineering Department. Prof. Bayındırlı has trained 16 master's and doctoral students throughout his academic life, and has conducted and conducted research on Food Engineering Unit Operations and Food Technologies. He has published over 90 of these researches, 39 of which are international articles, 23 of which are domestic articles, and numerous domestic and international papers. While continuing his academic career, he also assumed various roles in public and non-governmental organizations such as the Manufactured Food Preparation Group member in TSE, the High Advisory Council member in MASUDER, the Executive Committee member in TÜBİTAK Food Group, the Sector Committee member in TÜRKAK, and the Advisory Council member in GGD. Prof. Bayındırlı received the Prof. Dr. Mustafa Parlar Education and Research Foundation Education Research and Incentive Awards in 1995 and 1996. He continued his academic life in the METU Food Engineering Department until his death on July 2, 2011. After losing Prof. A. Levent Bayındırlı, who was the originator of the idea for the establishment of the Food Analysis Laboratory (GAL) and who supported us at every stage, in July 2011, our laboratory continues its path under the name of Levent Bayındırlı Food Analysis Laboratory.
