Mehmet Sadrettin Sinman was born in Istanbul in 1925. He learned German and electronics through his own efforts. He started studying at Istanbul University's Physics-Mathematics (Applied Physics) department when he was only 28 years old. Since he had very good knowledge of electronics, he became the head of the team that established the faculty's radio stations. He completed his master's degree in Nuclear Electronics at Istanbul University's Applied Physics department, and his doctorate in 1966 at the Plasma Physics (High-Beta Tokamak) Laboratory, working on Turkey's first Tokamak Project under the management of Prof. Dr. Fahir Yeniçay. The first step of his business life was at FF, Applied Physics Center. Here, as Technical Manager (1950-56), he managed and concluded 8 projects on Telecommunication Systems and development research. After that, he was given the task of project designing the communication network of the Highways. During this period (1956-58), he developed receiver-transmitter systems (ground stations) with the laboratory he founded and the group he formed, and completed his propagation study. In the meantime, the General Directorate's communication function was also fulfilled. At the end of the project, the communication network was expanded with support from I.C.A. He did his military service (1958-59) at the Scientific Consultation and Development Board affiliated to the General Staff. Here, he worked on some tactical problems in the Operations and Electronics Research groups and then entered the IU, FF Atomic and Nuclear Physics Department as an expert. During this period (1959-67), he conducted basic and applied research in the fields of Plasma Physics and Nuclear Electronics. On the other hand, he worked part-time at the ITU Nuclear Energy Institute, organized the Institute's Nuclear Physics Laboratory and contributed to its establishment. In the meantime, he worked as a consultant for Mors and TEM Collective Companies, developing single-sideband receiver and transmitter systems for the Petrol Ofisi pipeline communication network. Prof. Dr. Sadrettin Sinman won the 1988 Science Award given by the ODTÜ Prof. Dr. Mustafa N. Parlar Education and Research Foundation for his contributions to Fusion Physics and especially to the development of compact toroids. Prof. Sinman and his wife Assoc. Prof. Ayten Sinman developed a plasma production design called C-gun in their studies at TAEK. Prof. Ahmet Yüksel Özemre, who was the president of the institution during the years they were active at TAEK, emphasizes in his book “Portraits and Memories” that they were referred to as the “Turkish Curies” and that they “achieved international respect, admiration and fame” with their studies at TAEK. In his academic aspect, Prof. Dr. Sadrettin Sinman supported graduate and doctoral students in various subjects and directed nearly 40 theses. He gave speeches at international fusion conferences, mostly with his wife Assoc. With nearly 80 publications presented with Ayten Sinman and published by the IAEA, and articles published directly by her in various scientific journals, the Sinmans have gained international fame in the field of Electronics and Fusion Physics.
