Ali Usanmaz was born in Kars in 1945. He graduated from Kars High School in 1963. He completed his undergraduate education at the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at METU in 1968. He received his doctorate from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1974. Ali Usanmaz, who won the AID scholarship between 1964-1968, the TUBITAK MS scholarship between 1968-1970, and the AID PhD scholarship between 1971-1974, worked as an assistant at the METU Chemistry Department between 1968-1974. Ali Usanmaz, who started working as a lecturer at the METU Chemistry Department in 1974, was appointed Assistant Professor in 1975, Associate Professor in 1979, and Professor in the same department in 1989. During this period, Ali Usanmaz trained over 50 PhD and M.S. students. Ali Usanmaz, who conducted research in the fields of “Radiation-Initiated Solid-State Polymerization”, “Polymer Synthesis and Characterization” and “X-Ray Crystal Structure Determination”, shared the results of these researches with the academy with over 60 international publications. In 1981, Ali Usanmaz wrote the book “Inorganic Chemistry and Application, Volume II” with M. Demir and Ş. Demirci, and in 1984, he wrote the book “Analitik ve Sinai Kimya Labratuvarı” with M. Demir and Ş. Demirci. Ali Usanmaz also gave lectures as an adjunct at the Military Academy in 1975 and at the Eskişehir Chemistry and Pharmacy High School between 1975-1980.
