Mehmet Kıldır was born in Isparta in 1947. He graduated from Ankara Atatürk High School in 1964. He completed his undergraduate education at Ankara University Faculty of Science in 1969. He received his doctorate from the University of Rochester in 1979. In 1985, he worked as the deputy dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Mehmet Kıldır, who has research on heavy ion reactions, nuclear fission, and experimental and theoretical investigation of nuclear energy densities, served as a visiting professor at Carnegie-Mellon University between 1980 and 1983.
