Kemal Güçlüol was born in Gerede in 1935. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Northern Michigan University. He received his doctorate from Michigan State University. He worked as a teacher and administrator in village primary schools and secondary schools in various regions of Turkey. He became an academician at METU in 1975 and received the titles of Associate Professor and Professor. He retired in 1997 as Head of the Department of Educational Sciences and Dean of the Faculty. He was a visiting professor at the University of Wisconsin. He worked as Dean at Fırat University Technical Education Faculty and Ufuk University Education Faculty. He worked for 5 years at AIBU, where he became the founding Rector in 1992. He was the founding Rector of Çankaya University.
