Due to his father's appointment to Ankara, he enrolled in Ankara Anafartalar secondary school in 1951. She started Ankara Girls' High School in 1953 and graduated from high school in 1957. He graduated from the Physics Engineering Department of the Faculty of Science as a Physics Engineer in 1961. As a result of the exam held in October 1961, he was appointed as an assistant to the Physics department of METU Faculty of Science and Letters. As a Ford Foundation scholar, he completed his PhD studies on "The Study of Paramagnetic Defects in Vitreous and Crystalline Germanium Dioxide and Related Compounds Using Electron Spin Resonance Technique (ESR)" at the Department of Physics at the University of Hull in England between 1965 and 1969 and studied at METU. He returned to his duty. He carried out postdoctoral studies at Princeton (USA) University with an AID (Agency for International Development) scholarship between 1971 and 1972, and at Heidelberg (Germany) University with a DAAD (Deutscher Academischer Austausch Dienst) scholarship between August and September 1987. Between 1985 and 1988, he served as deputy head of the METU Physics department. Meanwhile, he was the head of the METU-TÜBİTAK ARCHEOMETRY Unit between 1982 and 1986, and the head of the METU-TÜBİTAK AKSAY (Examination of Archaeological Artifacts with Spectroscopic and Analytical Methods) Unit between 1987 and 1990. He became an Associate Professor in the field of Solid-State Physics in 1987 and received the title of Professor in 1991. In 1990, he played a fundamental role in establishing the interdisciplinary ARCHEOMETRY Department affiliated with the METU Institute of Science. He served as the chairman of the local organizing committee of the 29th International Archaeometry Symposium (1994) and as a member of the organizing committee of the international meetings named NATO – CCMS (Cultural Technologies, Weathering Processes in Ceramics and Stone Artifacts During Burial) (1997 and 1998).
