Annual tree planting activity (1960s)

METU Forest, which was built in 1958, has been planted by nature lovers in the midst of the Central Anatolian steppe.

Rector Kemal Kurdaş

He is best remembered for his work to develop Middle East Technical University build a distinctive campus for it and create a forest in what was arid, eroding land. He helped found and expand a number of businesses. At the same time, he initiated archeological excavations, led the effort to salvage historical artifacts and monuments from flooding by the Keban Dam and supported the publication of findings that throw light on the Neolithic revolution. On the side, he wrote articles and books on economic policy. His interests span archeology, architecture, business, economics, education and forestry. Kurdaş not only pursued these diverse interests but made a contribution in each area.

International Spring Festival Poster (1987-2019)

The first of the METU International Spring Festival was held between the 11th and 21st of May in 1987 by International Youth Club (IYC) and the posters of the Spring Festival has started to be prepared by IYC as of this date. International Spring Festival, which has turned into an important tradition of our university and is the first institutionalized university fest, occurs with the contribution of especially IYC as well as of other clubs.

Documentaries

Within the scope of Visual Memory Project, which is an oral history study, interviews were made and recorded with people who had worked or had been a student in any field since the establishment of the Middle East Technical University. Thus, the accumulation of these people, which would otherwise be lost, is recorded and transferred to future generations. Before the interviews were conducted, a group was formed to prepare a long and comprehensive research on the chosen person. Within the scope of the project, documentaries that are consisted of long-term interviews with many important names of METU community, provide a rich and permanent source of METU's history. GISAM (Audiovisual Systems Research and Applications Center), to protect both METU’s and Turkey's university education system and heritage, publishes resources produced in the Visual Memory Project.
